Here are a few interesting facts about foxes:
• A group of foxes is called a skulk or a leash. Who knows why!
• Foxes live on every continent except Antarctica, thriving in cities, small towns and rural settings.
• Foxes use the Earth's magnetic field to hunt. Guided like a missile, they see a "ring of shadow" that darkens as they move north. When the shadow and the sound their prey is making "line up," it is time to pounce!
• Foxes share many similarities with cats. They are more active after the sun goes down. They have vertical pupils that allow them to see in dim light. Foxes have sensitive whiskers and spines on their tongues, and hunt by stalking and pouncing on prey like cats do. Foxes walk on their toes, making their tread cat-like, and they are the only members of the dog family that can climb trees. Some foxes even sleep in trees. Gray foxes also have retractable claws like cats.
